【应用】可承受2KA浪涌的小尺寸GDT助力太网RJ45接口防雷保护
以太网通信中,为提供良好的共模抑制(信号线与环境之间的共模信号)、对频带内有用的信号进行高质量传输,同时需要做防雷保护设计,其经典的电路架构为:RJ45接口-以太网变压器-TVS阵列-以太网PHY芯片,参考电路如下图1所示。

针对如上的设计,当使用网络线连接线小于10m的设备并充分暴露在直击雷区间时,是有严重的安全性的,尽管网络变压器自身设计时有2KV~3KV耐压能力,不过针对雷雨天气,出现的高浪涌电流1KA~2KA将通过RJ45接口对网络变压器及后级PHY芯片造成非常严重的冲击,甚至将RJ45接口烧毁,那么为提升产品的可靠性,要如何做设计改善呢?
需要进一步做两级防雷及ESD保护:
1、 第一级是在RJ45接口输入端与以太网加入GDT气体的放电管,将浪涌电流通过开关式气体放电管泄放到大地;
2、第二级使用一颗ESD保护器件-TVS阵列,它能够将残留的频率成分浪涌吸收,并且在IPP下钳位电压下降到8V左右,这样使以太网PHY芯片处于安全保护状态。
针对如上的改善设计,电路构架变成:RJ45接口-GDT-以太网变压器-TVS阵列-以太网PHY芯片,这里推荐一款LITTELFUSE的两端子、表面贴装,标称直流击穿电压90V、冲击击穿电压500V的中低浪涌GDT,型号为SG90,实物图及尺寸图参考如下图2所示。

Littelfuse的SG90气体放电管采用微型封装,专为小尺寸(4.5x3.2x2.7mm)的PCB表面贴装而设计,可承受2KA浪涌电流,并能够转移1000A的脉冲,并且不会造成损害。 插入损失低,尤其适用于宽带设备。

• 无铅产品,且符合RoHS标准千兆赫工作频率
• 多脉冲占空周期具有出色的稳定性
• 对快速上升瞬态电压具有出色的响应能力
• 超低插入损失,参考如下表1所示。

描述- 气体放电管 Gas Discharge Tube(GDT)是一种单间隙或多间隙的开关型过电压保护器件。在正常情况下,GDT是处于高阻状态;当受到浪涌冲击时,GDT将从高阻抗状态变为低阻抗状态,并将浪涌能量释放到大地,降低电路残压,进而保护设备电路或人身免受瞬态过电压的危害。GDT是在金属电极、金属化陶瓷、惰性气体或与其它混合气体经过高温封接而成。
