In 5G infrastructure, Rogers’ low-loss, high-performance PCB (printed-circuit-board) materials are used in the Massive-MIMO antennas that provide the ultra-high capacity needed to deliver these types of services. Rogers’ materials are also featured in the power amplifiers needed in the base stations to power the systems and provide the coverage and data capacity. How is 5G Improving the Olympic Games?

The technical complexity of the 2024 Olympic games is great, requiring a network that can support the 12,000 connected screens, 8,000 WiFi terminals, 13,000 computers, and a paperless ticketing system in use. The mobility and strength of the 5G wireless infrastructure allows the opening ceremony to occur outside, away from the stadium, for the first time in Olympic Summer Games history.

This year’s opening ceremony will feature a parade of over 10,000 athletes boating down the River Seine, while micro-cameras attached to each boat will provide close-ups of the athletes during the ceremony broadcast. This unique entrance is enabled by 5G, providing a mobile network for each camera to connect to, transmitting a clear picture in real time for viewers worldwide.

5G can deliver high-capacity, low-latency coverage to deliver an immersive experience for fans, no matter their location. Using mobile devices, fans will be able to experience multiple views and competition stats in augmented reality. All spectators will benefit from the accessibility improvements of 5G, including those with vision impairment. Fans with vision impairment and blindness can harness the power of 5G by using haptic tablets to track the games in real time.
