Wireless Antenna Transmission Principles and Structure

Antenna Frequency and Wavelength

By calculating the wavelength of a radio wave based on its frequency, the size and shape of the antenna can be determined. Generally, the size and shape of an antenna are proportional to the wavelength of the signal:

Wavelength (λ) = c / f


Where c is the speed of light (approximately 3×108 meters per second), and f is the frequency of the signal. The longer the wavelength, the larger the antenna size tends to be.


Low-frequency signals (such as AM radio) have long wavelengths, requiring larger antennas.

High-frequency signals (such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth) have shorter wavelengths, allowing for smaller antennas.


Radiation Pattern and Gain

The radiation pattern of an antenna describes the distribution of signal strength in different directions. Different types of antennas exhibit different radiation patterns:


Omnidirectional Antenna: This antenna radiates signals evenly in all directions, making it suitable for applications that require broad area coverage.
