Therefore, to implement smart IoV, it is necessary to allow vehicles to perceive everything around them, so that the vehicles have functions, such as environmental perception, smart decision-making, and collaborative control. The upload, processing, and delivery of information require low latency and high bandwidth. At the same time, it is also necessary to interact with all terminals involved in traffic to complete massive data processing, which requires Road Side Units (RSUs) to assist, interact with various transportation devices, sensors, vehicles, and cloud platforms to implement high-speed and concurrent processing of massive information, improve the IoV efficiency, and improve security.

As important parts of smart traffic scenarios, 5G RSUs can be connected to various terminals, such as video surveillance terminals, radar sensing terminals, signal lights, environmental monitoring terminals, and information screens. 5G RSUs, combined with 5G, C-V2X, AI, and cloud computing technologies, help monitor and identify road conditions and implement real-time information exchanges between vehicles and roads. 5G RSUs not only help reduce the deployment cost of wired communications, but also meet the latency and bandwidth requirements of IoV for information processing. In addition, they have the local processing service capability so that they can help reduce network transmission and cloud platform pressure, improving vehicle safety reliability and traffic efficiency.
