Data centers have been multiplied recently, spreading it presence all over the world with over 500,000 data centers worldwide according to Emerson. The increasing requirements for high performance applications and the growing number of IoT devices that are generating large amount of data, are two key factors contributing to the current growth of the data center market.
Existing data centers are facing a critical challenge, they need to provide world data access to a cloud based and web scale infrastructure, meaning that data centers can’t exist in isolation, they need to communicate each other, they need to share data, content and provide backup and redundancy.
Data centers are strategically located, companies choose very carefully where to deploy them since a good choice of location means an optimized infrastructure and application environment, which can be translated into reaching a very big number of customers and users. Additionally, a good location can help in the data analytics strategy that helps brands to understand their business operations and customers operations, which representsa clear advantage between competitors. DCI is important for enterprises and operators that are looking to meet the rapidly expanding demand for cloud-based services and data, some large enterprises use DCI to connect their own data centers within their extended infrastructures, while others connect to partners, cloud providers or data center operators.
DCI technology solutions are created to meet the need of simplicity, density, and power efficiency while bringing several operational benefits like increasing the capacity of traffic and reducing the operational cost.
